Academic Staff Biography

Suharno is a Lecturer in Agribusiness at the Department of Agribusiness, Faculty of Economics and Management, IPB University, with a strong academic background in agribusiness, agricultural development, and agricultural sciences. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agribusiness and agricultural development and a doctorate in agricultural sciences from Georg-August University of Göttingen. In addition to his academic role, he has served as Chairman and Advisory Board member of the Indonesian Agribusiness Association and has acted as a senior economic expert for fertilizer and rice production programs, reflecting his close engagement with national agribusiness policy and industry. He teaches agribusiness economics, policy, entrepreneurship, institutional economics, risk management, and precision agriculture at undergraduate to doctoral levels.

His research focuses on agrifood trade, digital marketing, risk management, and value chain performance. His publications analyse export competitiveness of pepper, tuna, palm oil, and coffee, supply chain risks during the COVID-19 period, farmer perceptions of production risk, and digital marketing adoption in agribusiness. Through applied research and policy-oriented analysis, he aims to strengthen market competitiveness, resilience, and sustainability of Indonesia’s agrifood systems.

Studying production, price, and logistics risks across crop, livestock, and fisheries value chains to improve resilience and performance.

Evaluating how digital marketing, traceability, and institutional arrangements enhance efficiency, transparency, and farmer participation.
